Spoke with Neuro Nurse Yesterday …
After going for so long and not hearing anything from the neurologist, I decided to call and find out if they were ever going to call me and give me any results.
(Of course, I’ve already said what I expected them to say and I was partly right. More on that later.)
When I called on Thursday, the woman I spoke with said that she would deliver the message to the nurse on staff and that the nurse would call me sometime after 2 p.m. on Friday. I wondered what would take so long for her to get back to me, but I said thanks and went on for the rest of the day without giving it a second thought.
The nurse actually called on Friday around 11 a.m. I asked her if they knew any results yet and she said that she had checked my chart and that they still didn’t have the results of all the lab work I had done. I explained that all that stuff had been done nearly 5 weeks ago and that I had already gotten a copy of the results and didn’t understand why they didn’t have a copy of them.
She told me that she would call the lab and see if they would fax them over to her. She said that she would give me a call back next week after the doctor had been able to go over the results.
I then asked her about the results from the brain-stem test. She said (which I was expecting to hear) that everything looked normal. So then, I asked her, considering the neuropathy from the EMG test and the normal brainstem test, what were they thinking. She didn’t know and said that the doctor would need to look at the lab results.
So, I’m going to continue to put the desire to know what is going on back on the back burner (where it has been for the last several weeks.) It has made it much easier to keep on going.
Funny thing is, I felt rather bad on and off today. On Friday, the dizziness was much worse again (but the anxiety about it was nil) and for the last week my head, arms and legs have been very achy — those shooting type pains which (I take it now) are simply nerve pain. Today was a very dizzy day, too, but I’ve kind of learned to motivate around with just the occasional tipsiness.
One nice thing that has happened, though, is that the weather has changed again. The temperatures have dropped considerably (it is 54 degrees right now) which makes things much more tolerable. Of course, it has also been raining for the last several days, but that’s not so bad, so long as you stay inside!
