Barracuda, intent filters and Youtube

Funny, two Barracuda posts in a row. Of course it has been a long time since I posted …

Just in case you didn’t know, the Barracuda Spam Firewall is a great thing, but it can, at times, be overly aggressive in blocking mail. One of the built-in filters is called the “Intent” filter — this looks for suspect URLs and blocks them if (in Barracuda’s estimation) it looks spammy. Due to the fear of releasing trade secrets, they will not release the entire list of “Intent” URLs, but I just noticed today that youtube.com has become a blocked URL.

If you want to receive messages that contain links to youtube.com, you should exempt the URL from being listed.

The easiest way to do this is the find a message in the message log that was blocked for this reason and click the “Exempt URL” link.
